Who knew our canine companions were setting design trends long before it was cool? Take houndstooth, for example—elegant, a bit playful, and perfectly named after its dog-tooth look. This eye-catching pattern started out in the Scottish wool scene of the 1800s, made its way onto cozy country blankets, then leapt onto mid-century furniture and smart textiles. Today, you’ll spot it everywhere from chic rugs to stylish wallpaper.
These days, dogs are woven into our lives more than ever. At home, they double as our wellness coaches, gently nudging us away from our screens for a walk or at least a good stretch. In the office, they’re true MVPs: brightening our days, kickstarting conversations, and melting away stress—all while stealing the show. As our bond with dogs grows, so does their influence on our décor, inspiring spaces that blend sophistication, comfort, and a dash of playful, canine spirit.

Houndstooth is a visual staccato built through tessellation, forming continuous geometry with no clear beginning or end. Echoing M.C. Escher’s artistic illusions, what appears knit is a print designed to challenge perception. Cast in a refined palette, it nods to classic codes of disguise. Printed on a corn-based polyurethane and finished with 100% silicone, it’s innovative and resilient — bleach cleanable, hydrolysis-resistant for over 18 weeks, and withstands 500,000 double rubs.

HEDDLE in DOGWOOD.
Inspired by Bauhaus textiles and debuting 100 years after the legendary design school was founded, Heddle explores the interaction of weaving and color. Areas of more graphic, floating yarns are juxtaposed with flat-woven fields of subtle stripes. Heddle is named for an integral element of the loom on which it was developed.
On a loom, each warp yarn is threaded through the eye of a heddle, similar to threading a sewing needle. Lifting and lowering the heddles in deliberate sequences creates different weave structures.
Composed of approximately 50% more yarns than our signature Basketweave, this especially substantial weave is unbacked and transitions easily between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The unofficial dog of SPEC'd is Foxxanne - aka Foxxy. She is an American Bulldog + Bulldog mix rescued from the Anti-Cruelty Society through the help of an amazing rescue team, CHI-TOWN Pitties.
Let’s be real—Foxxy lives the spoiled life every single day, but on October 22nd, she’ll be showered with even more treats than usual (if that’s even possible). And the cherry on top? Our pawsome rescue team gets a little extra love in the form of a bonus donation too.
