THE SPEC'd LIST :: Inspiration and Conversation

WINTER | February 2021 Issue

HOW IT STARTED ...

January 2020 was the most difficult month of last year - having experienced the loss of a family member and a job within the same week was heavy. We hadn't even gone into a pandemic lockdown yet and the gravity of the experiences in 2020 were already pushing down hard. But, the Universe requires balance and for every push there is a pull, so later that month when a friend called to say they wanted to recommend a line and thought it would be a good fit, that call felt like the pull up of a helping hand.

Everything came together effortlessly; the brand, the concept, the graphic design, and the relationships - this is what some people call BIG MAGIC; the creative flow of energy and all the pieces of the puzzle fitting into place. The combination of that creative energy with all of the experiences from the past decade built a platform that became THE launch pad for SPEC'd.

February 2020 was the most exciting month of last year - being out on the town at industry events sharing the news felt so good. Chilewich and Howe were the first two manufactures to partner with us in February, then a couple more recommendations from friends led to partnerships with Frovi in July 2020 and Pair in October 2020. Every month last year made an impact on the business, but looking back now, it sure felt good to start out with a bang!

Stay tuned next month for HOW IT'S GOING!

FUNCTIONAL "AF"

AS Series by Howe

The AS series is a collection of mobile nesting chairs and tables that allows for truly flexible use of space. Feel free to work wherever you want! All nesting tables and chairs in the AS series come with a mobile wheel-base. With a light “push,” you can create new furnishing dynamics that maintain a harmonious design language throughout your interiors.

COME TOGETHER NOW

RELIC at WORK by Frovi

Relic at Work is a co-working system derived from our current Relic design. The unique wedge shape tops are designed to allow a generous work space with a compact footprint.

Adjustment between a collaborative work space and private working can be achieved with the use of the additional, magnetically attached accessories. Add a canopy, lighting, and biophilic elements like planters and pots to soften the environment.

EASY AS PAIR PIE

Pick & Choose. Mix & Match!

At Pair, our furniture and approach are designed with customization in mind. If you want a completely unique solution, we design it with you. Tell us what you have in mind, and we’ll co-design furniture together that matches your vision.

Go from “I have a vision,” to “I’ve got furniture” faster than ever. Your furniture is simple to assemble, and you won’t have extended lead times. From drawings to delivery, we make the entire process easy.

THE ART & THE CRAFT

Woven Textiles by Chilewich

"Our colors have dimension. They're never one note.” - Sandy Chilewich

Everything we weave begins with TerraStrand, the name of our proprietary extruded yarns. We develop the colors of each yarn for every weave we design, and we have the unique ability to extrude two colors within a single strand of yarn.

These extraordinary “bi-color” yarns are used strategically when designing a weave, so that colors seem to appear and disappear, providing subtle shading, depth, and dimension.

BE THE WEIRDO...

Have you ever felt that giddy excitement when you have an idea? Us too, but we could never put a name to that feeling until we discovered Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Balancing between soulful spirituality and cheerful pragmatism, Gilbert encourages us to uncover the “strange jewels” that are hidden within each of us. Whether we are looking to write a book, make art, find new ways to address challenges in our work, embark on a dream long deferred, or simply infuse our everyday lives with more mindfulness and passion, Big Magic cracks open a world of wonder and joy.
